<content>I too don't really own a GPS tracking device strictly speaking, but I do own a Blackberry. I am pretty sure that I could download a tracking app on there if I really wanted to so that my wife could know where I was and stuff, but what I really want to do is be able to use it for geocaching and stuff like that. Does anyone know a good app for that?</content>

<title>The Structure of Our GPS Tracking Group</title>
<content>When we all got together to form our little GPS tracking group we had to decide a little bit on the appropriate structure under which we should organize. In fact, we were faced with questions even before we became an official group, though none of use would have thought about it that way at the time.

You see, whenever a group of people get together for some common goal there is always a political element to it. Politics simply defined is social relations involving authority or power, and we certainly were having social relations and our group created power that needed to be wielded well. So even without thinking about it we had already entered into politics when it came to our group and we didn't even know it. Just by getting our head together and wanting to make something happen in educating consumers about GPS tracking we had create power that need to be fashioned and purposed correctly.

At first our de facto organization was a form of democracy. All the original founding members would be polled about whether or not we would want to do some activity X when it came to GPS. Often times we would end up doing nothing for one of many different reasons. Sometimes a member would be busy with previously arranged activities. Other times the idea only appealed to a small minority of the group who could not sway undecided and indifferent participants to their side.

As a result, our group began to fragment into several different factions. Most of these factions were based solely on personalities and close personal ties. It was much each for members from the same city to be a part of the same faction because they had met face-to-face than it was for people from different regions. Personalities dominated the group during this period, but we still did not get very much done as a group.

You see, no single faction could yield a majority to compel the action of the entire GPS Tracking group. Loyalty to the faction began to overcome membership in the greater group and for a few weeks it did not look good for the future of this group. There was a good chance that we were going to splinter into all sorts of smaller, less useful groups.

But some of factions began to realize this as tensions began to mount and they formed an alliance together to create a majority of the members in the group. This allowed them to push through some motions that sought to reshape the way that the group goes about doing its business and make things much more effective.

As a result of these changes we are more of a representative republic, built on the model of the United States in its early days. We hold elections every year to give members a chance for vote people into our governing body - the GTGS, the GPS Tracking Group Senate. The Senate is in charge of all major decisions and appointing the Executive Committee. This EC runs the day-to-day operations of the group, which isn't very much. For example, this website falls under the jurisdiction of the EC.

Well, I hope that this little history lesson has faithfully recorded the history of the structure of our GPS tracking group. If there are any questions or comments please feel free to mention them below and I will do my best to get them answered.

<content>I made my own home made GPS tracking device. It is pretty ghetto. It is just an old cell phone and a little display thingy that I bought on the internet so that I can get it to tell me my coordinates. I probably should just go out and buy my own gosh darn tracker but I am a little partial to the home made one because it was so fun to do it myself. DIY FTW!</content>

<content>No dude, I totally don't own one yet. It kind of sucks that I don't, but I figure that I might buy one in 2010. I probably won't be able to buy one of them on the &quot;buy a GPS&quot; event because I won't have the cash. But hopefully I will be able to save up some money once I get a job and I can do some fun GPS stuff.</content>

<content>I don't own a GPS tracking device yet, but I want one so freakin' bad. Right now I am dead set on getting one of those new Motorolla Droid cell phones into my grubby little hands. That way I can pawn off my crap cell phone onto my husband and we can actually do things like text each other during the day. It really sucks that he doesn't have a phone right now, but we plan on getting him one sometime soon.

Anyway, I know a cell phone isn't what most people think of when they think of a GPS tracker - but most smartphones have GPS in them and can run cool apps like &lt;a href=&quot;http://www.google.com/latitude/intro.html&quot;&gt;Google Latitude&lt;/a&gt; and whatnot on them. These are free and work just like a GPS tracker so that is good enough for me.</content>

<title>The GPS Tracking Groupie Guide Is Here</title>
<content>This is a big day for our GPS tracking group. It feels like we have finally become official after so many chats in forums and other odd haunts. Having a place to call our own is going to be something pretty special. We can talk all we want about those things that we always did without having to worry about high jacking a forum or a blog post.

Here are just a few of the things that I think we are going to be able to talk about freely here:
* What type of GPS tracking device we own. (I already started a discussion about this: &quot;Do you currently own a GPS tracking device?&quot;:http://gpstracking.groupieguide.com/discussions/do-you-currently-own-a-gps-tracking-device)
* Post pictures of devices that we are interested in buying
* Post pictures with the GPS coordinates of the location that we took the picture
* Set out on our own little geocaching adventures. Heck, we might even be able to get our own little collection of caches listed locally on this group website
* Talk about different opinions concerning the use of GPS tracking technology. It is okay, for example, for a spouse to track their spouse? Or parents to track their children? Or children to track their parents?
* And much more!

I also like having our own space because it is going to be much easier for use to schedule events. Groupieguide.com is very simple to use and makes it very easy to set up an event. I sure hope we get some good mileage out of this feature. I also want to draw your attention to &quot;our first event(Buy A GPS Day)&quot;:http://gpstracking.groupieguide.com/events/buy-a-gps-day. Be there or be square!

So thank you to all the people who have made this group a possibility. We could not have done it without you!

Griz - Thank you so much for all your long, rambling blog posts about what it takes to get a group off the ground. It has taken me a long time - too long if you ask me - to try out your tactics and I am crossing my fingers that this whole group think gets off the ground and we can help lots of people trying to find information about GPS tracking from other people who have a little bit of experience. Keep writing those long posts chalked full of useful information and random tidbits of content.

Court - Thank you for helping me understand things about site size and networking that I would never have been able to come up with on my own through experience. I am a little upset with you that you have chosen to charge me for the privileged and will soon be unsubscribing from your service since I no longer find it helpful or useful. I wish you would have helped me for free, but I have to admit that a lot of what I am today in terms of setting up online GPS tracking communities like this I owe completely to you and your programs. I might be doing better today if I had never met you and just met Grizz, but you have still helped me and I am thankful.

Steward - What a great help you have been to me over these past 24 months. Never before would I have dreamed of doing what I do now 24 months ago. You have been there the whole time helping me grow and pushing me to be a better man.

I can hardly believe our little GPS tracking group is here. Come in and join the fun!</content>

<content>I own a Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS. I use it for all sorts of things, but mostly for training during my runs. I love how versatile it is and how it can be used in the gym just as much as it can out on the trails. To me, it is the superior wrist watch.</content>
